The Internet to Weaken Record Giants Distribution Power

More and more independant online music retailers sell straight MP3 music from their sites with no built in protection. One of the biggest is Emusic.

If you visit the site you will see that you can find lots of tunes in - unprotected - MP3 format which are protected on other sites such as Rhapsody or iTunes.

Unprotected MP3 files can be freely distributed over the internet, in email or can be uploaded to servers and allow others to get access to it.

This phenomena is also called DRM-free music distribution.

Large record giants, such as Universal, Sony, BMG and EMI are now feeling the pressure of loosing control of their distribution power.

They even contemplate of giving in and letting the Internet and users decide how music is going to be distributed in the future.
