Mobile Phone Operators and Web 2.0
Mon, Aug 27, 2007
Findings conducted by Jupiter Research suggests that Mobile Phone Operators are seemingly going to reap huge dividends from budding Social Networks, encouraged by websites such as YouTube, Bebo, MySpace and Facebook.
It is suggested that revenue for Operators could grow 10 times on a 5 year period.
For example: Facebook has over 52 million users globally, a figure which no doubt is stirring interest among Mobile Phone Operators as mobile devices are easily accessible to users who will be able to avail of the mobility on offer to update their status while on the move and not confined to either a PC or Laptop
Recently Vodafone signed a deal with YouTube for exclusive mobile access.
Verizon Improves Internet Browser
Leading American Mobile Phone Operator Verizon Wireless has re-engineered its Web 2.0 internet browser, Mobile Web 2.0, improving graphics, increasing functionality and adding new content channels.
The redesign comes with 10 button and numerical shortcuts and advancements, including dropdown lists, one-click access to content, graphical improvements and improved “cursorbilityâ€. Mobile Web 2.0 allows Verizon users to access email, news, weather forecasts, sports highlights, and information from numerous content providers, including USA Today, MapQuest, ESPN, and Bank of America.
It costs $5 per month, plus airtime, if purchased as a standalone service.
Lee Daniels, Vice President of product development at Verizon explains “The redesign of Mobile Web 2.0 is another example of how we consistently strive to further enhance and simplify our customers’ wireless experience†and “Customer choice, easy navigation and usability are critical factors that help shape the success of a mobile data service in the marketplace.â€
The improvements will take effect immediately.
