Google Purchases Postini for $625 million Recently search engine giant Google completed the purchase of e-mail security company Postini for $625 million, an acquisition anticipated to attract more business to Google Applications.

Currently little more than a thousand small businesses and universities use Google Apps but it has been reported that there has been significant interest from larger businesses.

Google Apps provide online functionality to organisations without IT resources. Organisations can get e-mail addresses with their own domain names and share documents and spreadsheets with colleagues online, among other services.

Though it has primarily been marketed as a cost-effective option for small businesses, Google Apps has been widely regarded as a possible threat to Microsoft Office.

Postini and Google had been collaborating together for months, integrating Postini’s communications management and compliance solutions into Google Apps premier edition aswell as establishing plans to provide security, administration and archiving services for Google’s email application Gmail (www.gmail.com ), whilst the purchase of the company will build upon that foundation.

Scripts Purchases Recipezaar Recipe and cooking website have had huge volumes of traffic since the birth of the internet. Started in 1999 as CookPoint, Recipezaar reported 2.3 million page views in June 2007. Scripts Networks is reported to have paid up to $25 million for the acquisition of this website. “This is a great first step toward our plan to rapidly expand our revenue base from interactive media” stated Scripts president John Lansing.
