5 Tips to Write Killer Blog Headlines

Social Media

If you are writing a regular blog with frequent posts, how can you get your readers to keep coming back for more?

How can you hook them into reading your posts, clicking on your links, returning regularly to your site, and ultimately purchasing your goods or services?

Here are 5 helpful tips and strategies to get you moving toward writing those killer headlines that will hook your visitors and leave them wanting for more:

1. Tell a secret to your visitors.

Or at least suggest that you’re about to tell one. Seriously, there’s nobody that can resist this type of headline. “The Secret to Killer Headline Writing” will get your readers interested. “The Secret to Making More Money While Working Less” is definitely a keeper, too. Nobody will pass that up!

2. Remember that social pressure still works wonders.

Try something like, “What Everyone Should Know About Teeth Whiteners,” “Natural Solutions for Fighting Adult Acne” or “What Your Mortgage Broker is Not Telling You” will make them very curious.

Your visitors want to feel like they are getting information from you that they can’t get somewhere else. Making your readers feel like it’s important information, that it will make their lives better, that they can’t live without it, and that everyone would want to know this will make them keep reading.

3. Similarly, suggesting that your readers need some sort of improvement in an area of their life will reel them in.

“Get Your Body Back In Shape Now” or “Quit Waiting For That Promotion” are both lead-ins that few readers can refuse to peek at.

4. Try offering your visitors lists of important tips, like a Top 5 or Top 10 list.

“The Top 10 Reasons to Try Health Tourism” tells your readers that you’re on top of the issues they are interested in. This will instantly let your reader know that there is quick and useful information to follow.

Readers don’t like to sift through endless pages of prose to get to the meat-and-potatoes part of your post. Bulleting a list of the top tips will help you keep their interest.

5. Ask an interesting question, and suggest that you are about to provide an amazing answer to that question.

Try using something like, “Why Write Great Blog Headlines?” or “Should You Be Worried About Your Child’s Weight?”

Great headlines for your blog posts are important for gaining and keeping your visitor’s interest.

Without having a good hook right at the start, they might just as well click to another site—and they will.

The longer that you can keep them on your site, the more likely they are to return, making them more likely to eventually be sending some funds your way, whether by eventually purchasing from you or clicking on some of your affiliate ads.

Every visitor counts, don’t let any slip by because of your dull and lifeless headlines!

What are some of your favorite headlines? Any strategies that you’ve come up with to hook your readers in?
