Boost Your Traffic by Improving Your Timing

Everyone knows that more people BUY on eBay on Sundays. Thus, it makes sense to put your gadget up for sale on a day that leads to a big, Sunday evening price-bidding war.

Why not do the same thing with your social bookmarking and post submissions?

Like eBay junkies, social media scanners (I use the term affectionately) have distinct habits and preferences. The social media sites too, have their own time-based tasks that you could parlay into more visibility or rank.

Social Media Scanners

The world of social media is so new that only a few legitimate studies have been done to discover the reading (scanning) habits of it's swelling masses. But, here's a rule of thumb:

Let them eat content "cake" on the weekends and save the hearty meals for the Monday – Thursday.

Huh? Well, let me expalin…

A recent study found that on the weekends it's the simple, entertainment style posts that rise to the top of social media sites like Digg on the weekends. Things like silly pictures, videos, short and amusing commentary, etc.

However, during the week, especially in the morning (when people are probably back to work and have nothing better to do but browse their favorite social site) people look for meaty posts that make them feel like they are actually working.

Now you know…time your content submissions accordingly.

Delicious Timing

We are not talking day-trading here but you need to know a bit about the timing behind updates to your chosen social media sites.

For example, the del.icio.us "popular" page is updated approximately every 4 hours. As a social media marketer you should actually time your bookmarking and take advantage of this fact. Check the popular page and bookmark accordingly, as soon as it refreshes.
