5 Easy Wordpress Tweaks For SEO and VEO
Mon, Feb 18, 2008
1. You want more traffic.
2. You want a 1st page Google ranking.
3. And you want subscribers in the thousands.
Before you can get there, you’ll need to optimize your Wordpress blog for both types of visitors… The searching bots and searching bods.
Bots = Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Bods = Visitor Enhanced Optimization (VEO)
Here are 5 E-A-S-Y Wordpress tweaks anyone can do that will get you points with both types of visitors.
1. (SEO) Include your main keyword or key phrase in both the blog title and the tagline, preferably twice in the title.
For example: The key phrase Web2Center has recently locked in on is “Social Marketing”. Therefore, we updated the blog title to read: “Social Marketing Strategies from Social Marketing Expert Peter Lenkefi”.
2. (SEO) Clean up the header code by removing unnecessary links and scripts.
For examples: Joost Devalk provides brilliant advice on this, he says:
![]()
3. (VEO) Add “space” to your blog.
For example: If you have a text heavy blog and are not one to use line breaks, go back through and creates some. The online reader needs more eye “space”.
Also, consider adding some bold and italics, perhaps a few …ellipses (sparingly) but be careful of those exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!
4. (VEO) De-clutter the sidebar.
There is no shortage of bling for Wordpress sidebars. While each widget has a purpose, not all of them give value to your blog. Check your stats, your analytics and your readers… I think they all will point you to “less is more”.
If you just can’t do without the all the bells & whistles, you can always put the flashy stuff and “extra” widgets in the footer.
5. (SEO & VEO) Graduate from the school of TEXT.
Google needs rich media on the first page for every keyword you can think of. Why not be the ONE who gives it to them?
Forget trying to rank by creating 100+ anchor text back links. One well tagged and titled video and you are there.
Your visitors will thank you for content options as well.

Nice post. One thing I have noticed is that SEO is a continuous process. It
cannot be done perfectly in one shot. You have to be on your toes and try out
different things to get ahead of your competitors. There have been instances
where my site’s search engines rankings have improved considerably with few
small tweakings.

Yep, SEO is a continual process, ever evolving…and so is VEO. We are pre-programmed for change. Our minds have so much input that they often extrapolate what we know should be in the voids to keep from processing all that info. So changing the layout is one of the best ways to get visitors really looking at you page.

These are right-on. However, there are like about 20 more that you should really do. This needs to be the top 20 things to do for SEO if you want to be thorough. Where is the discussion of density?

4. (VEO) De-clutter the sidebar.
I couldn’t agree with this more. If a visitor comes to your site to read content and you are including advertising. Include one or two ads in the sidebar maxium. Otherwiseit just becomes a clutter of color and blah. You have to attract your prospects attention, and you can’t do that if everything just blends into a soup of clutter.
Everyone who is blogging should really take the time to find or design a template that fits nicely with their content. It’s worth the investment. So many blogs look so plain and boring that no matter how great the textual content no one wants to read them.

Great article! It can never be said enough - KISS - Keep it simple, (usually most people put stupid here, but I object to calling anyone stupid, so I’ll use silly!). Too many blogs have got far too much bling and it detracts from the overall message you are trying to convey.
Thanks for the tips - awesome!

Oh yes the balancing act of SEO, VEO and Social Media Marketing.
Tactics used by savvy web strategist.
A savvy web strategist defined: A hard working key board cutter that has made every mistake possible over the last 10 years, and finally, after pulling the last strand of hair from the scalp, understands the overall strategy….CONVERSION. If you want to convert thy visitor to a client, you have to put in the hard work.
The game inside the game of successful web marketing.
It does not come overnight.
Sleep well, there are plenty of failures in store for tomorrow that have every chance to be successes, if you only work at it.
Too many biz owners work “in their biz”, when they should set some time aside to work…. “on their biz”.
Web Marketing Works.
Work it.
