6 Essential Steps to Blog Promotion
Wed, Sep 19, 2007
Promoting your web blog has to be done continuously if you want to get a constant stream of traffic. If you don’t drive traffic to your blog, your online business will soon peter out. The following are the 6 key elements to blog promotion. 1. Create a Promotion Plan. Failing to plan is planning to fail. When designing your blog, create a marketing plan. Imagine yourself in your customer’s shoes and try and view things from an impartial viewpoint. You need to have a clear vision for your business, both long and short term goals you wish to achieve and the strategies of how you will accomplish them. 2. Define Your Target Market. Many blogs are promoted aimlessly with no clear target audience in sight. Of course, traffic is driven to your blog, but it is not the correct type of traffic, you have not narrowed your field of customers and targeted them. Try to understand your target audience and research your target market. It is not enough to about your product(s), it is necessary to understand your target market’s opinions and possible future trends. Getting targeted customers to visit your web blog will increase sales, because they will have more interest in your product or service than marketing to a general audience. 3. Promote Continuously The only way to have continuous traffic at your webblog is through continuous promotion. Do not stick to the same routine. Try to use many forms of promotions; search engines, forums, email marketing, etc. The more channels you use the greater chance of succeeding to generate more web traffic to your blog. 4. Analyse Your Blog Traffic. By analysing your web traffic you can easily determine which strategies are being most successful and whether any strategies are failing. Thus, you can change and alter strategies as necessary. Some useful tips in analysis include analysing the keyword that was used (there are a number of tools out on the web which will generate alternative keywords i.e. football, football tickets, football boots, football jerseys, etc), where your users are coming from and which pages were most popular. These are essential statistics you can use rather than aimlessly promoting your weblog. 5. Monitor Your Return on Investment (ROI). Keep a record of where you are investing your money and as a result of analysis in point 5 you can determine your optimum ROI. ROI will also determine whether you are wasting money with some aimless promotions. 6. Test Relentlessly To run an effective online marketing campaign, you need to constantly test what works and what doesn’t. You should also monitor your blog in the search engines, so you can optimise your web pages for higher search engine rankings. This will attract more visitors; which will lead to higher profits. Blog promotion is different for each individual organisation and it is rare that what is successful with one will succeed with another. Try everything, keep records and use what works. |
